But as a speaker, a speaker reel is a crucial marketing tool that allows you to showcase your skills, your personality and your style. So in today's episode, I thought I would just kind of take a deep dive into each of the six essential steps that you can take to create a speaker reel that stands out.
Number one, start with a clean message. So your speaker reel should focus on a particular topic or a message that you want to convey. Now it's really important to demonstrate your expertise in a specific area or a subject matter now when choosing your topic, consider what you're passionate about and what aligns with your brand and values. Make sure that your message is clear, concise and compelling. So what you want to do is you want to capture the viewersā€™ attention and demonstrate that you are an expert in your field.
Step two is to showcase your personality. Now clients want to see that you're engaging charismatic and you have a sense of humor. And your reel should show your expertise while kind of also displaying your personality. Make sure that you are authentic and genuine and you're delivering and you know, let your personality shine through. People really want to see what you're like. You might also also want to consider incorporating personal stories or anecdotes that demonstrate your unique perspective and approach and this is really going to help you stand out from other speakers and of course will help leave a lasting impression.
Step three include testimonials now testimonials, they're a bit of a pain to gather. You feel bad asking people but if you've got testimonials from past clients, that's just going to help build your credibility and showcase your expertise. You really want to ensure that you include testimonials from clients who have booked you to speak. This will help build trust with potential clients and increase your chances of getting booked. Even the other day I was pitching to a corporate client and they wanted to see a show reel of mine. They wanted testimonials. So what I will say is when selecting your testimonials, choose ones that maybe speak to your strengths and highlight your unique value proposition.
Step four, keep it short and sweet. Your speaker reel doesn't really need to be anything longer than three minutes. I mean, our clients are so busy, they just don't have time to watch a lengthy video of anything more than that. So highlight your strengths and your expertise in a concise and engaging way. Now be sure to include the most compelling parts of your speeches and also avoid filler content. So really want to try and edit out those gaps. You want to keep the viewer engaged you see from start to finish.
Now, step five, use high quality footage. The quality of your speaker reel is really important and I actually engaged a professional to do some filming of one of my or two of my talks in September and November last year because if you can use high quality video and audio module to ensure that your reel is engaging in professional it's just going to be so much better. So invest in good lighting, sound and equipment and make sure that your footage is well edited and polished. You really want to create a video that looks and sounds professional and demonstrates your attention to detail.
Step six, our final step is to end with a call to action. Now you'll speak your reel really needs to end with a clear call to action. This could be a link to your website, or maybe just a way to contact you to book a speaking engagement. You just want to make it really easy for potential clients to take the next step and book you for their event and you want to create a sense of urgency and encourage viewers to take action.
So in conclusion, creating a killer speaker reel that gets you booked requires careful planning, attention to detail and a clear understanding of your brand and values. And so by following these six steps, you can create a speaker reel that really showcases your expertise, your personality, your style, and just helps you get booked for more speaking engagements. So remember that your speaker reel is a reflection of you and your brand. So really, folks take the time to create a video that truly represents you and your unique value proposition.
